Purchase/Sell Manga/Anime for a Business?

Me and a friend of mine have started a business for selling shirts with our own original designs and wish to move on with another idea we had for the business; selling Manga/Anime. my question is how do we purchase/sell it without getting nailed for copywrite or whatever. is there a contract that i have to get into, or can i just sell it?
