Does anyone think religion possible evolved from laws/advice etc?

Religion appears to be possibly older than spoken language. We see burial and veneration of the dead as far back as 500,000 years. Perhaps there were elements of necessary traditions being passed down as part of the beginning of what would become modern religious practices, but a large part of it appears to be a coping mechanism for death.
